You may have seen a new face at the market lately, and that face belongs to our new market manager, Kristen Miller. Kristen also manages the Overton Park farmers market, which takes place on Thursdays from 3-7.
A lifelong Memphian, Kristen has enjoyed many roles over the years, from serving as a Social Worker at St. Peter Manor, to working as a Family Service Counselor at Memphis Funeral Home, and somewhere in between also operated Garden Therapy, an organic soap business. She is a mom to Hayden and Henry who can sometimes be seen scampering around the market.
Q: So how did you come into the role of Market Manager?
A: Gardening and farming is in my blood, having grown up in "the sticks" of Tipton County where my family was known for growing just about anything. My love of plants sparked my interest in making organic, botanical soaps and I was a vendor at several farmers markets around town. Little did I know then that that experience would lead me to where I am now! I had to leave the market circuit for a couple of years to take care of some family business and I've missed it so much; when this opportunity came up, I jumped on it!
Q: So when you're not managing two markets, what do you like to do?
A: Most of my non-work hours are devoted to taking care of my kids and shuttling them around to various activities, but I am also an avid reader and I love to create- crochet, sewing, painting, cooking, baking - you name it. I also love going to see concerts at the Levitt Shell and walking/hiking the greenline.
