Memphis, TN,--The Sixth Annual Mid-South Farm to Table Conference is scheduled for February 15, 2016 at the Eugene Woods Civic Center in West Memphis, AR. Established with the vision that thriving local food systems will support agricultural livelihoods, improve access to fresh produce, encourage an individual's healthy food diet, and stimulate job creation and economic development, the gathering invites farmers, consumers, food entrepreneurs, and concerned citizens to attend.
The 2016 gathering will focus specifically on the needs and challenges of food production and sale throughout the Mid-South. The goal is to build a better local food system one that supports profitable small-scale agriculture, fosters a thriving local food economy, and shares healthy food equitably. Keynote speaker is Rebecca Thistlethwaite, a farmworker, agricultural researcher, business owner, author, and consultant to farms of all sizes. Her presentation will address production, marketing, business with a highlight on her new book, "The New Livestock Farmer: The Business of Raising and Selling Ethical Meat."
In 2015, Thistlethwaite published, "The New Livestock Farmer: The Business of Raising and Selling Ethical Meat." She will be conducting a reading and book signing from this book at Laurelwood Booksellers on February 14, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Her first title, "Farms with a Future: Creating and Growing a Sustainable Farm Business" was published in 2013 and was very well-received.
She will be presenting two sessions at the Farm to Table Conference: Creative Financing for Farmers; and The Business of Ethical Meat.
